Strictly Homemade Tuesday # 8

Happy Tuesday Everyone and welcome to Strictly Homemade Tuesday Linky Party. I hope you all had a fantastic long weekend. Mine was so good I forgot to post this party as early as I normally do. Oops!! Time seems to slip away when you are having fun!!

Memorial Day & Burlap

I hope that you are all having a wonderful Memorial Day. I hope you are grilling out and enjoying the day off with your family and loved ones. I also hope you are taking the time to remember why we celebrate Memorial Day. This "holiday" is not without the sacrifice from others. To remember those who serve in our wonderful armed forces, I made this simple burlap flag to add to our decor for the summer.
It is pretty simple and obviously not a true representation of the American Flag, but it gets the point across. My kids have already noticed it and has given me the perfect opportunity to explain a kid version of the meaning of Memorial Day.

Week in Review 5/27

I am going to make this short and sweet!!

First, I am over-the-moon excited to tell you that I am a contestant at One Month to Win it!! It is kinda like American Idol except on a much smaller scale. There are 12 contestants and we are each given a craft challenge. People vote for the project they like best and then 9 contestants move onto the next week. Then 6, then 3, then finally the winner. I can't tell you which project is mine but I do hope you will go over there and vote!!! I will let you know when!! Wish me luck!!

Ending tonight... I am hosting a giveaway at Craft-o-Matic for a Chevron Pouch. Isn't it cute?

Lastly, have a wonderful 3 day weekend as we remember those who fought and died for our freedom. I am proud to be an American and honor those from the past and the present who protect us!!

I buy my jewelry at the hardware store

Gone are the days of receiving David Yurman or Mikimoto…1 mortgage and 3 kids says that is NOT in the budget!   That is cool, because I found a new affordable place to buy jewelry.  The hardware store.  I kid you not. 

I recently ran across this awesome tutorial from Mommy Go Round on how to make Celtic Knot Necklace.  I loved it instantly.  Here is my 1st version…

 

I gifted this to my MIL and my neighbor.  I have seen both of them wear them and they seem to enjoy them  They are different and that is what makes them so cool!

Here is the roping I used.  It was $7.00 for 100’.  I can make a lot of necklaces!!

Then I made some other versions…

This is probably my favorite!

This is a little wild made with washers and clothes line but I like it too!!

Here is the tutorial on how to tie a Celtic knot.  You will need to watch it at least 2 times to make one…or if you are like me 10 times!!  Once you get the hang of it it is pretty simple!!

I have no experience in jewelry making so I am totally swinging it. I figure it it stays together we are good.  I bought some silver wiring and wrapped the ends together and put on a hook and rod at the end. 

I am sure that is not the proper technique so if anyone would like to shine some light on the subject I am all ears!!

Strictly Homemade Tuesday # 7

Hi friends!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was wonderful as we celebrate my daughter's sixth birthday and my other daughter's baptism. We had lots of our family members here and I just loved every minute! Since this weekend was so busy I did not do any projects myself, however, I did have time to look/stalk other blogs that linked up to Strictly Homemade Tuesday. Wow, I was blown away!!

FEATURES FROM STRICTLY HOMEMADE TUESDAY #6

It is graduation time and Trisha from Stampin' & Craftin' made these adorable graduation caps. So clever and they look so yummy!!

Next is Katy from sweet verbena she has mad sewing skills!! I love pouches, zipper bags, and pretty much anything to hold all my junk. This is a beautiful cosmetic bag she gave to her cousin. Isn't it cute? Katy, my birthday is in December!!! (wink)

Next feature... I want to be noted as saying it first....her blog and style is amazing and soon her blog will be ranked among some of the best. I wish I had 1/10th of her talent... This is Stacy from Conspicuous Style. She posted last week her kitchen panelling- that she did herself!!

Then I saw her complete kitchen...OMG, she won my heart. This is like my dream kitchen/breakfast room...amazing. I pretty much stalked her blog for 30 minutes. Go check her out. You will thank me!!!

Week in Review 5/20

Happy Friday Everyone!

What a crazy week this has been. I am not sure exactly why but it has FLOWN by and at the same time Wednesday felt like Friday to me. Ever had one of those weeks? I apologize for the lack of posts this week but I just got over having a clogged milk duct. Ever have one of those??? Ugh!! Why is being a woman so painful sometimes?

Enough complaining here are some of the other things I have been up too...

1. This weekend is going to be super busy as we celebrate my oldest daughter's 6th birthday and then my youngest daughter's dedication is on Sunday. Most of our immediate family is coming into town and it is going to be so great to see everyone.


2. My cousin just had his first son and I worked on a little gift for him. I hope they like it!! I LOVE SEERSUCKER!! You will be seeing a lot more seersucker projects from me this summer.

3. I found a new love for celtic knots. They are so much fun to make (once you get the hang of it) Next week I will show you how to do them yourself!

4. Last but not least, last week I told you we were going to Scotty Mc Creery's homecoming. We saw him and I thought I would share one of my pictures

Random Thought for the day...Why can't I keep my house "guest ready?" We have some one here almost every weekend it seems like and I have yet to learn to keep my house guest ready. Therefore, on Friday I proceed to run around here like a chicken with my head cut off trying to clean. I tell myself it is because I have kids and that is why...but I don't think it is really their fault. It is the maid...a.k.a...me!!! Ugh!

Strictly Homemade Tuesday #6

Hello, all my crafting friends I hope you are all doing fantastic!! Welcome to Strictly Homemade Tuesday#6. Where Homemade rules and prefabricated drools! Ha, I just made that up!! Okay, moving on from the cheese factory...

First some well deserved features because these ideas deserve the lime light!

It is getting warm outside and Kelsey from The Inspiration Thief (love her blog name) made her children a DIY Water Table. My husband needs to make this for our kids!

Why??
Because last year I made my children a Redneck Water Table...Thanks, Kelsey you are going to save my children from embarrassment this year!!

Then "How to set the table" place mat from Sue @ Counting Bunnies Too. BRILLIANT!! Great teaching tool!! She comes up with the BEST kids stuff.

Tutorial: No Sew Bolster Pillow

Last week I participated in a blog swap with Janet @ I heart my glue gun. Today I am going to share with you my post and a fabulous no sew bolster pillow. No sewing skills required!!!

A little about me! I am Maridith, with an 'a', at Strictly Homemade . I am a wife and a mom to three beautiful children! I am a seamstress, a crafter and a wanna-a-be decorator. I make clothes for my children, gifts for family and friends and almost all of my home decor. It would be safe to say that 90% of my home decor I have either, painted, sewn or mod podged!!

If you have read my blog for any time you know I am slighly obsessed with PILLOWS!! I love decorative pillows and I pretty much make them all the time. Here is a small sample of some pillows I have recently made.

To show my love for pillows and a glue gun (wink, wink), I am going to share with you a

No Sew Bolster Pillow Tutorial

ANYONE can make these~ I promise!!



Supplies Needed: Old Towel, Paper Towel Roll, 2 rubber bands, 20"X26" piece of material, ribbon, glue gun (not shown)

To prepare for assembly, cut material 8" wider then a paper towel roll by 26" long mine making it 20X26", use pinking scissors (not necessary but it does finish out the edges nicely without rolling them over twice.)

1. Fold towel to be the same width as paper towel roll and wrap towel around roll 2. Heat up Hot Glue Gun and prepare to "sew" 3. Turn over three edges and hot glue down. 4. Center towel/paper towel roll in the center of your hemmed material.

5. Starting with the unhemmed side and start rolling the material around the towel semi-tightly 6. Hot Glue the finished edge to the wrapped material 7. Take a rubber band and tie off one end and do the same on the other 8. Wrap ribbon around rubber band and glue down.

You are done!! Nothing to it!! If you have ever priced out bolster pillows you know they are expensive, with this design you can make them pennies to the dollar!!
